This Carbine Socket is made of high quality leather and is tapered per the originals. The Carbine Socket was designed to hold the barrel of a trooper’s carbine snugly while riding on his mount. This pattern of Carbine socket continued in service after the Civil War and into the Indian Wars through the early 1880’s until replaced by the Carbine Boots. Available in Black leather. They began to appear by early 1863 to replace the leather loop keeper that had been the standard prior to the war. The keeper has prongs to fasten to the leather waist belt.
